Decide if it's right for you

(Almost) anyone can become a Guest Address host, and it’s a lot of fun. Are you curious about what a Guest Address must meet? Read the house rules and regulations carefully, and then decide if it’s right for you.

A Guest Address:

  • Has a separate and clean bedroom.
  • Provides made-up beds of good quality, in standard sizes, with clean bedding.
  • Has a shower and toilet, which may be shared.
  • Provides a clean towel for each guest.
  • Provides a fire-safe* sleeping area with a window that opens and is accessible via a fixed staircase.
  • Has a place to store bicycles as safely as possible.
  • Offers a warm welcome, including to Friends traveling alone.
  • Prepares a nutritious breakfast in the morning.

The overnight rate is always €27.50 per Friend. Children 12 and under pay €15.
You can read more about prices in the House Rules. There you’ll also find what you can expect from a Friend.

* In the Netherlands, a fire or smoke detector is required on every floor.

Get your affairs in order: city hall, taxes, and insurance

Even though you’re not a commercial entity, local regulations may (sometimes) apply. In some municipalities, registration is required, and you’ll usually have to pay a tourist tax.

The foundation is not a party to the agreement between Friends and Guest Addresses. You are personally responsible for a number of matters. It’s a good idea to look into this before you host Friends:

  • Municipality: Regulations vary by municipality. Therefore, check how your municipality handles registration and tourist tax.
  • Taxes: The price of the overnight stay may affect your tax return; check what applies to you.
  • Insurance: It’s a good idea to verify whether damage caused by or to Friends is covered under your home contents and liability insurance.

We have a separate information page on these topics. It’s a good idea to read it before you sign up.

Considerations

Moet ik altijd beschikbaar zijn?

Nee.
