House Rules

Staying with Vrienden op de Fiets is never the same as the day before or the day after. What does stay the same, however, are the House Rules and our Values. They form our shared foundation for a smooth stay. Please take a moment to review them - that way, we’ll stay friends.

Initial Contact

  • The Friend contacts the Guest Address via email or phone to ask if the desired date is available.
  • The Friend prefers not to look for a Guest Address months in advance.
  • The Friend and the Guest Address work together to determine the arrival time - preferably in the late afternoon.

A Guest Address

  • Has a separate bedroom.
  • Provides one or more made-up beds of good quality, with clean bedding and in standard sizes.
  • The room is fire-safe*, accessible via a fixed staircase, and has at least one window that opens.
  • Provides access to a shower and toilet, whether shared or private.
  • Provides a clean towel.
  • Has a place to store bicycles as securely as possible.
  • Provides an energy-boosting breakfast.
  • Also makes room for Friends traveling alone.
  • Charges the set overnight rate. This is a reimbursement of expenses, as Vrienden op de Fiets is a non-commercial organization.

*In the Netherlands, a fire or smoke alarm is required on every floor.

A Friend

  • Biking and/or hiking on multi-day trips. Electric bikes or inline skates are also allowed, as long as you’re using your own power. So no cars.
  • Checks (online) how and when a Guest Address prefers to be contacted.
  • Makes initial contact via email, app, or phone.
  • Arrives at the end of the day and sets off again full of energy the next morning after breakfast.
  • Upon arrival, the Friend must show their Guest Pass and ID.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Follows the Guest Address’s house rules. These may include taking off shoes, smoking/no smoking, making the bed, and whether or not to use the living room.

Prices and Payment

  • The accommodation price, including breakfast, is €27.50 per Friend.
  • Children up to and including age 12 pay €15.
  • Friends pay for their stay in cash or via a payment request.
  • The Guest Address may ask the Friend for a deposit of 50% of the overnight stay price.
  • If a Friend cancels within 24 hours of arrival, the Guest Address may charge 50% of the total overnight stay price.
  • Prices do not include tourist tax. This is a government tax whose rate varies by municipality. In major cities, it can be as high as 10 euros per person per night.

Extras

Guest addresses may offer extras, such as a packed lunch or the option to dine with the hosts. Below are a few approximate prices.

  • Hot meal: €12.50
  • Packed lunch: €5
  • Electric bike charging: €0.50

Friendly tip: Check with your Guest Address in advance to see which extras you’d like to use.
