Meeting People

Are you a good host or hostess? Do you enjoy receiving guests? Does the idea of offering sporting Vrienden op de Fiets (Friends on Bicycles) a pleasant sleeping accommodation appeal to you? If so, yours would be an ideal guest address. Guest addresses are private homes – not commercial bed & breakfast establishments. In principle, Friends reserve a bedroom for a single night only. In consultation, they could perhaps stay on for several nights, for example, when they participate in a four-day cycling or walking event. Be sure and ask for the Friends number with each reservation.

Nearly 6,000 people open their doors for cyclists and hikers. Sign up directly as a guest address.

Relaxation

It is important that you and your guests experience a cosy, relaxed overnight stay. A guest address therefore should offer its guests the following services:

  • A clean accommodation;
  • Made-up beds of good quality and normal dimensions;
  • A fire-safe room, accessible by permanent stairs;
  • Windows that open;
  • Use of a shower and toilet, private or shared with other family members;
  • A lockable, preferably covered bicycle shed.
  • Breakfast.

Reception

Cyclists and hikers, but also canoe or skating enthusiasts – everyone who travels by their own muscle power – are welcome at guest addresses.

A guest address charges the following prices:

  • Bed and breakfast: €19.00 per person, per night (excluding tourist tax). Children up to 12 years old:  € 9,50 per child, per night.
  • The tourist tax varies per municipality, but is usually between €0.50 and €2.00.
  • Lunch packet (optional): maximum €5.00 per person.
  • Maximum of € 9.50 per person, per day reserved if canceled 24 hours before arrival.
  • Hot meal (optional): maximum €9.00.
  • Charging an electric bicycle: €0.50.

Friends pay the cost of an overnight stay directly at the guest address. For cancellations 24 hours before arrival, you may charge a maximum of €9.50 per person, per each reserved day.

The Rules

Although Stichting Vrienden op de Fiets is a large organisation, it operates much like a family. As a result, it has certain rules that everyone follows – for example, for reservations, prices, payment and transport.

The overnight addresses are private addresses that offer one or more beds. They are not commercial bed & breakfast establishments.

Reservations
When reservations are made, always ask for the Friends number and address details. You should agree on the desired arrival and departure times, along with any special requests involving pets or children.

Questions from lodging addresses

You will find the answers to frequently asked questions here. If, after reading this information, your question remains unanswered, you should contact us.

Why can I only charge €19.00 per night?
This is an expense reimbursement, not a commercial price. It fits in with our idealistic goal.

Do I have to pay tax when I let my accommodation via Stichting Vrienden op de Fiets?
Yes. You will owe income tax on the income from letting your accommodation. You must report this yourself to the tax authorities.

Do I need a permit to let my accommodation?
You should contact the municipality in the town/city where you live or have an establishment.

What about liability if there is damage to my guest address?
The Friend concerned and the host of the guest address must deal with damage claims. Stichting Vrienden op de Fiets is not liable for damage caused by guests.
